I was first introduced to Daniela at the pop-up shop she and her husband Dean were running on Main st. over the holidays quite a few years back. Coincidentally I bumped into her again at the movie theatre within the week and spoke to her about the “We Are Local” guide they created. I was looking for suggestions on creating my very own artisan guide, however in time this idea evolved into The Bentwood Project. Daniela's projects encompass local creatives and connection, this work is so important for our very few local communities. “Coming across individuals that have an idea, and then make it happen, is awesome and super inspiring.” - d.a. lee
What does passion mean to you?
It’s that instant reaction of excitement inside your belly that you get from something.
What is your most significant and meaningful passion in life?
Creativity and the act of creating something.
By what means are you currently fulfilling your passion?
Creating Small Wonder Magazine; each issue has a theme which I present to artists or poets. The last issue was fruit and I let illustrators and artists run with it. It’s amazing what people come up with.
Was there a specific person or moment in your life that influenced you? How?
Milo my son, I’m a magazine junky, and there was nothing available that was geared towards parents or their kids. It was all one note, and nothing out there was inspiring to share.
What was it that intrigued you about the Small Wonder Magazine?
The opportunity to offer a variety of aesthetics to kids and their families. It’s exciting to see these different styles develop.
How do you know or reassure yourself that you are doing the right thing?
Sometimes there is days that you don’t know. Most people that take the creative path aren't always rolling in it. But it’s always worth it.
What qualities or skills have you acquired from the Small Wonder Magazine ?
I am quite shy, so when promoting the magazine or asking someone to contribute, I have to get over those feelings.
What has the Small Wonder Magazine allowed you to achieve?
The magazine has allowed me to connect with a wide range of interesting people.
Just to do it, it’s not as scary as it might seem.
“Communicating and sharing information is essential, and as humans we need that.”
